First, Amex Offers is generally a consumer and small business program and thus the companies may not want big businesses coming in and getting credits. Also, corporate programs require a special account and are most likely processed a different way than normal purchases. This means they simply may not trigger the credit. Finally, American Express and their merchant partners probably exclude corporate gift cards because they are already discounted! The discount scales as the purchase amount gets higher. Chuck at DoC highlighted this the other day. For example, the Blue Cash Everyday card has terms not only excluding gift card purchases from being eligible towards minimum spend requirements for a signup bonus, but also for earning Reward Dollars for day-to-day spend. Eligible purchases are purchases for goods and services minus returns and other credits. Eligible purchases do NOT include fees or interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments, or purchases of other cash equivalents. They clawed back Amex Offer credits for the Staples Amex Offer last year, resulting in a huge hit for people that took advantage of it with 99 employee cards.
