The team at Gas Monkey Garage have restored the car, with some more modern modifications, to make the Smokey and the Bandit replica the best version of the vehicle ever constructed. The Smokey and the Bandit replica is lighter and faster than the original. The vehicle build process and subsequent challenges aired back in December, where a few shenanigans ensued. The Trans Am stays true to the original with the black paint and gold striping. A restomod is like restoring a vehicle, but all of the original bits of the vehicle that really were not that great brakes and suspension, for example are replaced with more modern components. This allows for the vehicles to retain their original image and desire, but be safer and perform better than the originals ever could.
